Bankroll management

Crack this and you have cracked the game.
You might think its not that simple but the guidelines set out by the worlds best bankroll management specialist Chris "jesus" Ferguson means that as long as you follow the rules then it proves very difficult to go broke. If you do go broke and you know yourself that you have stayed within the guidelines then its time to consider whether or not you should be playing this game for an income.
Chris set the guidelines and you wouldn't believe how many pros have followed in his footsteps and listened as well as preached what this guy has had to say.
So you need to use a strict format for all your poker playing and make sure you stick to it as this will be the only way you will give yourself a chance to succeed.
The guidelines are as follows.........

-Never use more than 5% of your bank roll for Sit N Go's
-Never use more than 5% for any one particular cash game. In a cash game when your balance reaches 10% of your bankroll, you should see the blinds out and leave. -Never use more than 2% of your bankroll when playing a multi table tournament

If you stick to this format it will give you a chance a not going broke. More importantly its impossible blow your bank roll on 1 bad session. Another important aspect of this is that it helps you with your discipline of your overall game a create a better player.

I cant emphasise enough how important aspect of the game is. Its not about being able to afford to play the game its about controlling your self discipline and being able to give yourself the chance needed to improve. This game becomes a lot harder when you have to reload to sit back down because it then means the money is what you have had to work for and means you will never be able to play your A game at the felt

Hey mate, really enjoying reading this blog on a daily basis, how did you get on at the weekend?

Just to start the debate, I note you have a lower level for your SNG's than your MTTs. This is the same for me, hence my decision to raise Jesus' MTT bankroll qualification from 2% to 5%, is this madness or qualified confidence?

ps i have a new blog because my other stopped me logging in!

pps ill be at the £55 DC at blackpool tomorrow night.

Like i mentioned somewhere on the site, my multi table tournament strike right is much better than my sit n go and cash game at the moment. I has spent alot of time working on a method for sucess in mtt's. As soon as i have a proven method for stt's I will re arrange my stt structure. My cash game is still the leak on my bankroll so I'm trying really hard at that to create A different approach. Keep reading dan.

Hey all.

The reason for 2% on MTT's vs 5% on STT's is that the variance is much higher on MTT's (you will not cash as frequently). So Ferguson recommends commmitting a lower percentage of your bankroll to the MTT tournaments.

One thing that Chris doesn't mention is that once you move up in stakes it is recommended to increase the number of buy-ins you have, especially if you are relying on poker for an income.
